I am a technology enthusiast and I love dreaming about ways to improve upon or create systems that we use in our everyday lives. As amazing as technology is, it can also create an isolating environment for the people using it. Whether it be code development, content creation, content management, data analysis, data visualization, social media, video games or the millions of ways we label our interactions with it; existing in a world where technology creates digital spaces that we spend large amounts of time in can feel extremely isolating. As much as I love technology, I love people even more. I love being around others who share a passion for what they do in life and the ins, outs, ups and downs it brings.
I approach the work I do with this perspective. For software engineering, I love prototyping digital code management systems to help improve the life and organization of the people that are set to care for and support that software’s profitability/sustainability. I approach every software build with the idea that successful software will never be written by and maintained by one person for the lifespan of that software product.
My real passion however lies in trying to make every day better than the last. For me that means co-existing in a digital space with other real people and improving my interactions with them and the worlds around us. There is so much technology out there that can make the ways people interact with one another so much better. I have spent a great deal of my life sitting in digital purgatory. I received my PhD in Biology with a focus in Bioinformatics, which meant a lot of sitting at a computer alone in a computer lab. I learned to value face to face meetings with advisers and how to make remote work feel like working in the same room with my peers. I love trying to recreate that collaborative and cooperative feeling with everything I do.
Prioritizing what I love with what I do.
